Finally fitting us into her packed schedule, Lightning the three toed sloth was available for interview at the San Diego Zoo this past weekend, so here it is:
ThisIsn’tGood.com: We’re very excited to meet you Lightning. Ever since we heard you were a vocal presence for the Animal Kingdom, we’ve been contacting your people to get a one on one with you.
Lightning: Mhhm.
TIG: So, lets get down to it. The human race is the only species on earth with certain discernible traits like culture, society, and ideological groupings. Unique to the human brain is a neural network capable of amazing discovery and invention which has been responsible for more change and achievement in the past two centuries than all of the history of earth combined. Travel, communication, the a global economy, and the international News network has had an extremely large effect on the alteration of a recently unchallenged evolutionary mind. It has often been said that this is the quality which separates Humanity from any other species — Man’s ability to ponder and challenge itself. However, inherent to this is the juxtaposing part of such an environment which will probably be responsible for its demise: a complex web of interrelation and creativity also itself maintains inherent opposing abilities like isolation and destruction. More to create implies more to destruct, and as our globe becomes a tighter knit community rendering myth, fantasy, and irrational behavior obsolete to those who rely on it for structure, it is said that those most shocked will respond as such. It is becoming more common that those most threatened by a non-forced enlightenment of their peers and children are attacking their rivals for maintaining an active interest in progress and the future instead of a hard-line traditionalist stance. Your thoughts?
Lightning: Hmm?
TIG: Thank you for your time, Lightning. It has been an honor and a pleasure to speak with a visionary of sloth rights and a conduit to communication with another life form on this magnificent flying rock we call home. We look forward to talking to you in the future, and hope we haven’t taken too much of your time.
Lightning: Hmm.
Special appreciation goes to the San Diego Zoo for the exclusive interview.
