Actor Will Smith is known for his tremendous screen presence, and has always wowed with his roles in movies such as Independence Day, Ali, and that other animated fish movie released a year after Finding Nemo. More recently, Smith has taken a more philanthropic role in Hollywood, launching the careers of duo Jaden and Willow, showing aspiring youth that anyone can achieve stardom, no matter how underprivileged or undereducated they may be. Settling nicely into his background role in Tinseltown, Will has been sending waves through the Screen Acting grapevine — seen frequenting areas known for dangerous surroundings, loud noises and smoky rooms in the less traveled parts of Los Angeles county, the trade union of Boilermakers, Locksmiths, Apprentices, Craftsmen and Staircase-Builders has been showing Smith outlook on the working class.
BLACS is known as a tight knit community of humble, fastidious, working-class members, but Hollywood outsiders prone to ignorance view it as mysterious and difficult to understand, often basing its opinions on headlines rather than information.
Because of the stigma associated with BLACS, news is not so good for movie project “Build Gates”, the screenplay about successful businessmen trying to mend fences in a community known for building their own. Smith has been hand picked to play the lead role of Samuel Freeman, a well-spoken iron worker hired by America’s wealthiest to act as envoy between the working class and the nations elite. Casting and production cite the recent shift in Smith’s private life and his all-encompassing acting backlog as reasoning to believe his role will drive a box office runaway, but Will’s agency has already put the brakes on the idea. Representation for the actor has been quoted, “Just because he is known for working with BLACS, doesn’t mean he should immediately be pigeon-holed into a role people naively assume relates to them. We find it unsettling that the cinema community now only associates Mr. Smith with BLACS, and are awaiting offers for leading roles usually offered to Henry Winkler, Anson Williams, and Donald Most. If you’d like to find our client, he will be working on neglected BLACS projects.”
